Cultural Film Festivals

Beginning November 1st, the American Indian Film Festival will be taking place in San Francisco.  This annual festival has been going on for 37 years already, and is said to be the oldest Native Americans film festival one in the world.  The festival will take place at the Palace of Fine Arts. Surprisingly, the people who put the festival together chose the word Indian to describe the collective groups of Native Americans.  This festival ends November 10th.

On November 6th, there will be a South Asian Film Festival called Bollywood and Beyond.  The festival will take place at the Castro and The New People Cinema in San Francisco.  Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar) of The Big Bang Theory will be at the screening of the new film he produced, Beyond All  Boundaries.  This festival ends on November 10th, but continues for one day (November 16th) in Palo Alto.

Government Shutdown (except Border Patrol)

Of the many agencies involved in the government shutdown, the border patrol and other immigration services remain exempt.  This shows that the government knows they cannot close their eyes for even a second when it comes to border patrol.  If the US let their guards down, they would be regretting it for quite some time.  The other hand, the agencies that deal with citizenship and green card applications are also exempt.  These processes already take long, and a shutdown could put these agencies even further behind.
