NYC Mayor and his mixed race family

Even in this day in age, racism is alive and well.  The Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio has been receiving comments on the fact that he is "a white man married to a black women with two biracial children."  Racism in America closely relates to American views on immigration.  Americans not feeling comfortable with people of color already here is directly correlated with not wanting more to come over.  The fact that this man's choice of wife is even a topic of concern seems petty to me.

  1. Well, there will be always comments like this. As far as I know racism's will always exist because it is the concept of Jealousy. And Jealousy will lead to fear and insecurities and simply this is what comments on a simple thing like this reflect. It ignorant but like I said there will be always "concerns" and comments like this, especially if you are standing in the public eye.

  2. Like we talked about in class all the racism and hate is due to fear. People always resist change and even though New York is advanced and modern in many ways, haters will hate and all we have to do is look at the bright side and look forward to his work and what he has to offer in futur.

  3. Word to both Byakhya and Sabine's comments. The realities are that hate will always be in the world, as a society it is our job to educate and discourage acts/actions of hate and so much of that relies on individuals doing the "right thing". Who are you wh3n no one looking is a question I often ask the youth I work with, as in, without an individual providing a forced moral compass, who are you? Will you speak out against the unjust or will you simply turn a blind eye?
